Trusted Referral Relationships Matter
We welcome referrals from attorneys and other professionals whose clients need help with employment matters, business disputes, or legal malpractice claims. Our goal is simple: take good care of our clients, communicate clearly, and make the referral process straightforward for everyone involved.
At 1818 Legal, we value long‑term professional relationships. Some referral partners send us employment and severance matters. Others reach out when a client or contact is facing a business dispute or may have a potential legal malpractice claim. When a new matter comes in, we approach it with responsiveness, honesty, and respect for the relationship that brought the client to us.
We understand that when you refer someone, your reputation is part of the equation. That is why we focus on prompt follow‑up, practical advice, and a client experience that reflects well on everyone involved.
Matters We Welcome
We are available to discuss referrals involving:
- Employment law matters, including workplace disputes, wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower claims, wage issues, and severance agreements.
- Business and commercial disputes, including contract and partnership‑related conflicts.
- Legal malpractice and attorney‑related claims.
If you are not sure whether a matter is a good fit, we are happy to talk it through before a formal introduction.
What Referral Partners Can Expect
When you refer a matter to 1818 Legal, you can expect:
- Prompt acknowledgment of the referral.
- A candid assessment of whether the matter is a fit.
- Clear communication with the client.
- Practical recommendations, not inflated promises.
Our approach is relationship‑driven. We want referral partners to feel confident sending us clients because they know those clients will be treated with care and respect.
How the process works
Our referral process is designed to be simple and professional.
Initial conversation
You can call or send a brief summary of the matter, along with any urgent timing issues or key documents.
Conflict review & assessment
We evaluate whether the matter is one we can take on and whether there are any conflict issues that need to be addressed.
Client contact
If the matter appears to be a fit, we connect directly with the client and discuss next steps.
Clear expectations
We explain the scope of representation, likely process, and fee structure before the client makes a decision.
Ongoing communication
When appropriate and consistent with client consent, we keep the referring professional reasonably informed about the status of the matter.
Referrals From Attorneys
We regularly work with attorneys seeking a trusted referral partner for litigation and employment matters involving clients, former clients, colleagues, friends, or family contacts. In appropriate cases, we are open to discussing co-counsel relationships or referral-fee arrangements consistent with Illinois Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5 and all other applicable ethical requirements, including written client consent where required.
Because every matter is different, any referral or fee arrangement is discussed individually and documented appropriately.
Referrals From Other Professionals
We also welcome introductions from professionals outside the legal field, including accountants, consultants, financial professionals, and trusted advisors whose clients may need litigation or employment counsel. If someone you know is dealing with a job loss, severance issue, business conflict, or possible malpractice matter, we are glad to speak with them and help them understand their options.
For non‑attorney referral sources, we keep the process simple: make the introduction, and we take it from there. We focus on providing the client with a clear, professional experience from the first call forward.
Good Fit Matters
A strong referral fit often includes matters where:
- The client needs quick guidance after a termination, layoff, or severance offer.
- A workplace dispute may involve discrimination, retaliation, or unpaid compensation.
- A business relationship has broken down, and litigation may be unavoidable.
- A client believes they were harmed by a serious attorney error or misconduct that has resulted in enormous financial harm.
If there is uncertainty about timing, claims, or documents, it is still worth reaching out early.
Don’t Wait Another Day to Help
If you have a matter to discuss, we welcome the opportunity to talk through whether it is a fit and how we can help.
